A new bike trip club has opened in Hangzhou. This is for anyone interested in any aspect of biking.
We will initially ride each Monday and Thursday evening.
Our first ride was last night with Jacky (USA, Aaron (Hubei) and Jamie (Australia) coming along.
The route is easy to remember and, will be riden more or less the same next Thursday.
Me met at Maya Bar (marked in blue in the centre of the page) at 7:15pm.
Ourroute is along Shuguang Road from Maya Bar, Yanggongdi Road, Longjing(Dragon Well) Road, Hupao (Tiger Run) Road, a little bit of NanshanRoad, Su Di [Su Causeway, it was named after the famous poet Su DongPo, who was the mayor of Hangzhou about one thousand two hundredyears ago. He constructed the causeway, and also invented the famousDongpo Rou, the poet's pork], Baochu Road and back home.
AtLongjing (Dragon Well) Road, there is a 2.4 kilometer uphill section,which provides good exercise. The best green tea in China is fromLongjin (or at least is supposed to be from there). It is saidLongjing tea tastes best when served with water from Tiger RunSpring.
At the end of Sudi, we saw some guards outside atemporary cloth wall. The wall was to prevent people from seeing alight show on the lake, and the guards were meant to stop people fromlooking over or through the wall. The show was the “Impression WestLake Show”, directed by the acclaimed Chinese movie director ZhangYimou. Jamietold the guard (in Chinese) that he didn't speak Chinese, and thenlooked over the fence at the light show. Jamie said it was a greatshow, thanked the guard (in Chinese) and insisted on having hisphotograph taken with the guard. The guard was pleased when Jamieleft.
Westopped of to eat fried Jioazi at a restaurant before going home.
We rodeabout 25 kilometers, averaging around 18k/h.
